Locally Sourced Meat - Yukon Farms

Knowing where your food comes from and how your meat has been raised is important to BonTon's mission. At BonTon, we will be purchasing meats from a variety of Yukon Farms. We can also provide you with a connection to farmers directly if you are interested in acquiring a side, in this case you would be buying directly from farmers for your personal use. Here is a sampling of farms that BonTon is currently engaging.

 

North Wind Farm is a small, family-owned farm located 15 km north of Mayo, Yukon Territory. North Wind Farm is a pasture based farm consisting of 160 acres of pasture and woodlands. Their crop lands are seeded to perennial forages that they use to pasture and feed their livestock. Current operations include pastured poultry and pastured pork.

Lastraw Ranch is a small family farm located in Bear Creek, 12km outside Dawson City where they raise, chicken, turkeys, rabbits, wild boar/boar cross, and ducks. Lastraw strives to support principals of sustainable local agriculture production and humane animal standards by using local Yukon Grain Farm feeds, in addition to providing our animals with exceptional care and attention as well as pastured range when possible. 

Product availability: chicken meat- June through Sept, turkey early fall, wild boar spring and fall, rabbit meat- year round, and chicken eggs-year round.

Birch Hill Forest Farm is home to Uncle Berwyn’s birch syrup which is harvested from birch stands north of Dawson City. Over the past few years Birch Hill Farm has also been raising pigs and meat chickens for sale

Sow's Ear Farm raises and sells heritage pigs, broilers, turkeys, ducks, and hens. Livestock are cared for in free range enclosures or mobile pens and are fed certified organic grain from northern BC along with local grains grown without chemical inputs. BonTon has sourced Pork from Sow's Ear Farm and most of that Pork is currently our initial salami batch.

Naturally Northern Meats is a Whitehorse located farm and abattoir. Brynn and Rena raise and sell Pork and Poultry and also provide slaughter services in their federally inspected facility. BonTon has sourced pork from their farm as well as use their slaughter services with a territorial inspector.

Circle D Ranch is located in the Ibex Valley of Whitehorse. Circle D Ranch is a family farm for the past 30 years. BonTon sources beef and in the future elk fromBill and Barbara Drury at Circle D Ranch.
